Five of the best dentistry EHRs
Digital records are becoming more common in dental practices, but dentistry has been slower than other areas of medicine to achieve full integration into national and international EHR frameworks, according to a 2025 review in the International Dental Journal.
The review notes that most dental records are electronic dental records focused on tooth charts, radiographs, and procedure codes rather than links to medical data. The reasons for dentistry’s comparatively slow EHR adoption are complicated and beyond the focus of this article
Yet despite the unique features of dental practices which may not lend themselves to traditional EHR adoption, dentists can benefit greatly from adopting a dentistry-specific EHR or dental EMR. The following list provides an overview of five of the best dental EHR software options.
1. Planet DDS Denticon
Denticon's cloud-based dental practice management system for multi-location dental groups integrates clinical details, imaging, scheduling, and financial data into one environment. In July 2026, the vendor launched DentalOS, which integrates Denticon and its Cloud 9 orthodontic software on a single data layer.
2. ACE Dental
ACE Dental's practice management system caters to small and medium-sized practices.
Features include appointment scheduling with email appointment reminders and appointment pre-blocking; claims processing and billing, patient and family ledgers, word processing with mail merge, prescription writer, 3D restorative charting, visual treatment planning, and auto clinical notes.
3. Dentrix Ascend
Dentrix Ascend is a cloud-based dental practice management system from Henry Schein One, designed for DSOs and group practices. According to the vendor, dentists can access patient data from any location on any device using Chrome or Safari.
It features a central database, shared patient records that allow patients to visit any location, and shared templates for adding new locations. Imaging supports 2D X-ray, 3D CBCT, and intraoral and extraoral images, and the system integrates with athenahealth for practices that need a combined medical-dental setup.
4. MOGO Cloud
MOGO Cloud, as the name implies, offers a cloud-based, all-in-one solution for general dentists and specialists, including orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists, and pediatric dentists. The system is hosted on Microsoft Azure cloud.
MOGO offers billing, patient scheduling, and digital imaging applications, alongside electronic signature capture, an intra-office messaging system, online patient forms, appointment eReminders, multi-location support, and a patient portal.
5. Curve Hero
Curve Dental's cloud-based, all-in-one dental software serves practices ranging from solo offices to multi-location groups and DSOs.
The vendor says it holds around 20 percent of the cloud dental practice market. In August 2026, Curve Dental announced a further $200 million investment in the product, covering patient engagement, eligibility checks, payment posting, revenue cycle management, membership plans, and orthodontic workflows.
Final thoughts
Dentistry’s slower integration with wider EHR frameworks does not reflect a lack of dentistry-specific systems. The market offers an excellent variety of dental EHR vendors and systems that provide flexibility and scalability for practices that use an outdated or otherwise unsuitable EHR.
